Have It Your Way - A post that would have more potential if A) I wasn't so tired, and B) It wasn't so rant-like. Ah well.
This isn't a new topic, but one I've been thinking of lately.
People in general these days seem to think they're entitled to get whatever they want, whenever they want it (and most of the time, they want it without earning it or deserving it, and they want it now). I can think of a few things that are available that you don't need to earn or deserve, but most things, I think, should be earned. And deserved. Or at least paid for. I'm not saying that people should never give or receive gifts ever again. That's not what this is about. This is about instant gratification and false entitlement.
With different companies trying to compete for the best customer service (i.e. "Have It Your Way," or "Just Say Yes," or "The Customer Is Always Right," etc), it's no wonder people expect to get what they want, because hey, the customer is always right, even when they're wrong.
Don't mothers teach their children anything anymore? Do people realize that you can't always get what you want, and sometimes, getting what you want isn't always what's best. If a baby wants to eat 5 dozen cookies, do you let her? Veruca Salt had to learn the hard way. She wanted, of all things, a goose to lay golden eggs for Easter (among other things). And look what happened to her, she fell down the garbage chute. Think about it.
